In a recent Youtube Vid Mearsheimer claimed that ceasing the Ukraine conflict with the lines about where they are now would be an ‘unmitigated disaster’ for ‘Ukraine’.
I find this misleading in the extreme. It is factually wrong and therefore misleads entirely; suggesting to people that such an event should be avoided at all costs. (i.e. no matter how many die in avoiding it). This is lunacy. The characteristic of our times.
I made the following comment on that page:
Mearsheimer is as lunatic as all the rest and fails utterly to see people as the important thing in the equation, the situation.
‘unmitigated disaster for ukraine’ he says.
What does that mean?
‘Unmitigated disaster’ for the 40 million Ukrainian people?
No. Not at all.
They simply are not what he’s talking about.
For that 40 million an end to the conflict is no disaster: it is a win, a benefit, a good.
For the 10 million of them now in the Russian federated Donbas States their lifestyle, security, future are immensely better than they were prior 2014. Immensely. They were Palestinians prior to 2014.
For the 30 million misled by Bandera their life opportunities, their current life, is also dramatically improved: press gangs gone, death rate of their menfolk falls to ‘civilian norm’ levels, destruction of their country’s infrastructure stops, selling off of their country’s wealth stops, piling up of their country’s debts stops… benefit, benefit, benefit.
But Mearsheimer, a well informed intelligent person presuming and even paid to find truth and facts and promulgate them and advocate on the basis of them sees this as ‘unmitigated disaster’ !
Why? How? What the hell is going on?
Well it is clear isn’t it?
Mearsheimer talks and thinks entirely in terms of what we might call ‘corporate entities’.
Like thinking about the corporation coca cola but not its employees.
He means an unmitigated disaster for the wealth and power and aims and ambitions of the Kiev Regime.
For this virtual entity: the ‘Ukrainian State’ as represented by the individuals of the Kiev regime.
The actors, the players in his world view are those ‘entities’: virtual entities, legal fictions just like Corporations.
Mearsheimer shares this view with virtually all historians and professional geopolitical observers and ‘authorities’. It is how they talk. How they think. How they chart the course of humanity through the ages.
And it is wrong. Wrong. Wrong.
For when used to decide values and directions it points so often in entirely the wrong direction.
Such as in this instance.
Peace is utterly to the benefit of the Ukrainian people. Utterly. In every way.
But Mearsheimer makes the opposite appear to be the ‘enlightened’, the ‘informed’, the ‘correct’ view. Utterly wrong.
Shamefully wrong.
